Things I Stopped Buying for My Kids (and Why It Helped)

I used to think buying backups, extras, and just-in-case items would make life easier.

It didn’t.
It just gave me more stuff to manage.

Somewhere along the way, I realized that a lot of what I was buying for my kids wasn’t actually helping our day-to-day life. It was adding clutter, more decisions, and more things to keep track of.

So I started paying attention to what we didn’t need anymore.

Things like multiple pairs of shoes while they’re still growing. Extra water bottles overflowing the cabinet. Backups of everything “just in case.” When I stopped buying those things, our house felt calmer and our spending became more intentional. And surprisingly, my kids didn’t feel deprived at all.

This isn’t about being minimalist or strict. It’s just about accepting how fast kids grow and choosing what actually serves your family.
